Title: You won a trip to Mexico!!!
Grade Level: 9-12
Pre Planning
Big Ideas: The big idea here is to motivate and encourage students to use Spanish in a meaningful and practical way for those seminary students that are called to serve a two year LDS mission in a Spanish speaking country. The students will imagine they just won a trip to South America. How will they communicate in the airport? How will they order food? How will they travel without getting lost?
Essential Questions: What are some practical ways to use Spanish vocabulary words? What Spanish learning tools will the students discover? How will the students become motivated to study Spanish?
Objective: Students will have a greater desire to study Spanish and will use the necessary tools to become proficient in Spanish
Summative Assessment: Students will have the opportunity to role play the experience from the airport, to the taxi, to their hotel. Using the vocabulary words learned they will be able to communicate in a meaningful and practical way.

Lesson Opening
Lesson Opening (the hook): Cover the board (or use powerpoint) with 3 pieces of paper labeled Door 1, Door 2, and Door 3. Underneath each paper put in Spanish "una viaje a Mexico!". Have students choose one door to see if they won anything (don't reveal that each door is a winner). Announce the students have won! In order to claim their prize, all they have to do is count to 12!!! Use the site http://www.digitaldialects.com/Spanish/numbers_1I.htm to introduce the game and website.
