Part One
There are so many resources for teachers on the web! One of the most valuable resource for teachers has been the simple and convenient use of Spreadsheets and Databases. Looking at the many different resources, here are four resources that can be adapted for seminary classroom lessons.
Spreadsheet Hyperlink Lesson
This example is from a former Boise State EDTECH student Chip Flemmer. This spreadsheet lesson is really great in the way it uses hyperlinks to display different forms. It displays different forms and navigates like a webpage. One great way to use this in a seminary lesson is by using the hyperlinks to setup a spreadsheet with information about the number of pages of each book, and using another web resource know as Wordle.net, display the words most often used in each book of scripture. This would be interesting to see for the Bible and what words are emphasized in each book. You may find Chip's website from clicking on the picture below or at this link http://edtech2.boisestate.edu/flemmerl/EDTECH575/spreadsheetlesson.html

Mobile Spreadsheets
Google drive and docs is a great tool. Many high school students have mobile devices now and are constantly using them. Using Google spreadsheet to create a class list of tracking assignments can be very useful. Give each student access to the google spreadsheet so they can report about their assignments. One major grading component in seminary is tracking daily scripture reading. By using mobile spreadsheets students can report their reading so that other students may see it and be encouraged to read also. There are many ways this can be used in lesson plans also. One way is to assign a block of scripture to students and have them write their answers to questions. This would also allow students to comment on each others responses.

Tables/ "12 days of School"
This lesson plan is a great way to encourage students to learn about math and to create spreadsheets in excel. One way this same lesson can be integrated into teaching seminary is by modifying the listed items to other examples from the scriptures. I think the idea of singing a song is still fun too. There are many lists found in the scriptures and one in particular in The Book of Mormon that deals with currency. I think this lesson plan would fit well for that. You may find the lesson plan at http://teach.fcps.net/trt10/Documents/12days.pdf

Biography Fact Spreadsheet
In addition to studying scriptures in seminary, there is also Church History included in the curriculum. There has been many presidents of the Church and it may be difficult for students to remember all the information about each Church President. This spreadsheet lesson seemed to fit really well with the challenge of learning the Presidents of the Church. The picture below left shows a number of lesson resources for using spreadsheets in social studies as ways for students to track informational facts in an organized way. One lesson that can be adapted is Lesson 7.4 (found on below right) that has students look for the number of vetoes made by each president of the US. This format can be easily modified to have students look for the number of years the Church president served or other interesting facts.

Part two
Sample Spreadsheet Lesson-An Onti of silver?
Lesson Description-The Book of Mormon is a record about a lost ancient people. Not much historical information is given about these people. However, in one particular chapter, there is very great detail given about the Nephite coinage system they used. To help students understand the context and content of the scriptures, a modified version of the "12 Days of School" lesson will be used. Students will search the verses and fill out a Google spreadsheet with their mobile devices determining the worth of each coin. They will include a similar formula from the "12 Days of School" lesson to configure the worth of each coin.
Goals-The overall goal of this lesson is to help students understand the context on content of the Book of Alma chapter 11. Secondary goal is to help students become more skilled at studying the scriptures, in particular the study skill of making lists.
Complex concepts to be covered-Students will gain value greater appreciation for using the scripture study skill of making lists. Students will also become familiar with using Google's Mobile Spreadsheet while creating a spreadsheet listing the Nephite coinage. Students will understand how to find the context in the scriptures and also the context of Alma chapter 11.
Data-Students will use first a worksheet with a table to fill out (they may also plug in the numbers directly into Google spreadsheet, but it may be less confusing the list the data down first) and collect the data. Students will then use Google Spreadsheet to insert the data into the proper slot.
